So I've been doing a fair amount of practicing as of late. Most of it is with physical media, and since it's primarily just exercises I probably won't be uploading any of them to DeviantArt, but I did want to share some things I've noticed have been pretty helpful.
I've been trying to focus on figure drawing for now, since I ultimately want to draw characters and while my faces have improved tremendously my bodies still need work (particularly with proportions). The golden standard for this of course is drawing live nude models, and in the past I actually went to figure drawing sessions hosted by a local art shop, and others in the art school of a nearby college. Now though I've discovered a youtube channel that films nude models for the purpose of these drawing exercises, and I've been using that. It's called the Croquis Cafe and it can be found here if you're interested: www.youtube.com/channel/UCAZZ8…
Those exercises were great and all, but there was something missing. I didn't just want to draw figures, I wanted to draw characters. So I started observing moving people and trying to do very quick sketches to capture their feel and motion. It was really tough at first, but I've been getting better and better at it. The site that suggested this exercise also suggested it be done in something more permanent than pencil, so I used a marker. I was surprised how much of a difference it made when I knew I couldn't just erase a line; I had avoided drawing in pen because I hate the idea of ruining an otherwise good picture with one mistake, but I've found it really helps to keep me focused on being fast rather than being perfect, which is what the exercise is all about.
Finally, I've found a way to blend those two exercises (as well as giving me some dramatic lighting/shading practice), and I found it in the most unlikely of places: a music video a friend of mine showed me on New Years. My friend described said video as an "infinite astral pole dancer pole," and that's basically what it is. I found, though, that observing and drawing the various dancers really helped my grasp of the human figure, motion, and unique poses in general (also, the dancers are really impressive and I quite enjoy the music). I'd actually recommend it to anyone who's interested in practicing those concepts. The music video in question can be seen here:

MBA Get!
Hey guys!
Just wanted to do a quick update: I've been working on a Masters in Business Administration for the past few years, and I recently completed my last bit of coursework for it! Go me!
This means that I should have more time to draw now, though I am currently in "looking for job" mode, so that takes priority (btw if you know of any jobs that would suite someone with a MBA, or entry level game design jobs, let me know, I'm not afraid to relocate!). I have been drawing off and on, so I do have some work beyond the most recently submitted pieces on my page, though few of those drawings are scanner-ready. I'm hoping to finish some of my
Incoming submission dump
While I may have been pretty absent on DA recently, I have still been going to my art tutoring and practicing. I haven't posted anything in a while because I have a collab I've been working on for forever and was trying to avoid posting anything until I finished that. As it turns out, however, I am the worst at time management, and on top of that the artist I was collabing with appears to have closed his DA account and I have no other way to contact them (SingulaRGe if you're reading this send me a note or something D=). Therefore, I'm planning on scanning some of my work in and posting it up here. I'll probably need to prepare most of it for
I'm still here
Hey, just wanted to drop a journal to confirm that I'm not dead lol. I've been pretty absent from DA lately, mostly due to my MBA classes (that's masters in business, not basketball) but also due to laziness that I'm trying to correct heh. I am still taking art classes, and they have definitely improved my abilities; I will probably post some stuff from those classes once I scan them in, though I have a woefully overdue collab that I am resolved to finish before I post other stuff. I'm only now starting my next classes for the MBA program, so hopefully I will be able to find the time to do that.
Still working at it!
Just wanted to drop a journal to say that even though I haven't posted anything recently I'm still drawing regularly. My art classes of late have been on things that, while important, aren't super interesting (like clothing folds and, more recently, shading basic shapes) which is why I haven't been scanning them in as much.
That isn't all I've been doing though! I saw Zootopia fairly recently and fell in love with the film. It really inspired me; I've been drawing more than ever! Of course most of that drawing has been furry stuff rather than the humans (and occasional werewolf) I've put up here in the past. Right now the majority of my draw

Really interesting post!
I also want to work on figure drawing and characters and I think I'll try these exercises out.
Think you can give another link to that music video, it seems to be broken?
